The drive through offers heart-stopping views of the river Krishna on one side and the coastal plains on the other. This scenic location was discovered by the British during the British Raj as a summer resort. They have been credited with planting many plant species from the western world in Panchgani, including silver oak and poinsettia, which have flourished since then. Panchgani is famous for cultivation of strawberries, which is done almost throughout the entire year. Tourists can see strawberry farms, some of which offer fresh, hand-picked strawberries. Mahabaleshwar was the summer resort of choice for the British, but it was uninhabitable during the monsoons. Panchgani was developed as a retirement place for the British because it remained pleasant throughout the year.

The temperature in Panchgani is around 12 deg C during the winter, and sometimes reaches 34 deg C during the summer; however the humidity level is very low. The monsoon rains hit here hardest and the rainy season spans between June and February, allowing the region three months of relatively dry and sunny spring.

Some of the breathtaking attractions in Panchgani are as follows:

1 – Sydney Point: This point is situated on a hillock facing the Krishna Valley. One can see from here the glittering waters of the Dhom Dam, and Pandavgad and Mandardevi. Sydney point is about 2 km from Panchgani Bus stand.

2 – Table Land : This is flat land adorned with a carpet of grass spread over the vast area of around 100 acres. Early winters are a good season to visit Table Land since the monsoon grass is still there and the land is not slippery, as it is in the rainy season. This flat large expanse of laterite rock is the second longest mountain plateau in Asia. Some spacious caves including the “Devil’s Kitchen” are visible from here.

3 – Parsi Point : This scenic point is situated on the way to Mahabaleshwar, and overlooks the Krishna valley and the blue shiny waters of the Dhom Dam. This location makes for a very pleasurable picnic spot.

4 – Devil’s Kitchen : Situated at the south of the table land, the Devil’s Kitchen has a mythology associated with it: It is believed that the Pandavas of the Mahabharat epic had stayed here for a while and had once cooked their food. Pandavgad Caves (near Wai) are also said to be built by them then.

5 – Mala’s Fruit Products : Mala’s is one of the best Jam developers in the history of India. Malas introduced the word ‘JAM’ in India. Panchgani is the hometown of Mala’s Fruit.

6 – Mapro Garden : Situated on the curvaceous roads between Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar, it is easily accessible by buses originating both from Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar and is famous for all kinds of jams, squashes and other jam products.

7 – Sherbaug : This is a picturesque place in hill station Panchgani which has a dwelling of many sorts of birds species such as swans, rabbits and turkeys. One can also enjoy the picture-perfect surroundings along with a beautiful lush green garden. Sculpturing is the main activity carried out here to engage the children.
