State Wise lockdown Extension in India : With the rising numbers of positive cases, several states in the country had imposed lockdowns starting in April. In view of the current situation, some states have decided to extend the lockdowns to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Here is the latest update of which states that have extended lockdown in India

State wise lockdown extension in India

Telangana lockdown Extension:

The Telangana government announced on Tuesday (18/05/2021) that in view of rising coronavirus cases, the full lockdown in the state is extended till the 30th of May. The specifics of lockdown remain the same i.e. lockdown from 10 am to 6 am. Essential services are however exempted. Agriculture produce, agri-allied sectors, works undertaken with the agriculture machines, running of rice mills, transport of the paddy and rice, supplying paddy to FCI, fertiliser and seeds shops and manufacturing companies and other agri-based sectors are a few examples of essential services.

Andhra Pradesh lockdown Extension:

On Monday (17/05/2021) the Andhra Pradesh government decided to extend the partial lockdown period to the 31st of May. The lockdown is imposed from 12 PM to 6 AM. During the lockdown, only emergency services will be allowed to function. Restaurants, shops and other commercial establishments close at 12 noon. Essential services- hospitals, pharmacies, etc. will be allowed to operate.

Kerala lockdown Extension:

With the increase in positivity rate (~25% in 11 districts), the Kerala government announced a lockdown extension till the 23rd of May. And, also triple lockdown in four districts – Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Ernakulam and Malappuram. These districts account for over 50% of the state’s covid cases. Triple lockdown is a three-phased COVID-19 containment strategy, which involves three stages, or ‘locks’.
First stage – strict lockdown enforced in the corporation limit. People and vehicles cannot enter or exit the Corporation limit.
Second stage- implemented in cluster areas where Covid cases have been reported, to prevent the spread of the virus from first and second contacts.
Third stage – lockdown will be implemented in the houses of people diagnosed with coronavirus.

Delhi lockdown Extension:

The Delhi government has extended the lockdown period for the fourth time. Though Delhi has seen a decline in the number of positive tests in 11 districts, the overall numbers still remain above 5%. Other districts have witnessed a sharp surge in the last fortnight, in view of which the lockdown is extended by a week, till the 23rd of May. Delhi has been under lockdown since April 19. All the restrictions will remain as is including Delhi Metro operation, which will remain suspended till next 23rd May.

Himachal Pradesh lockdown Extension:

The Covid-induced lockdown has been extended till the 26th of May by the Himachal Pradesh government. There will be a three-hour relaxation every day and hardware shops will be open on Tuesdays and Fridays, as per schedule fixed by the District Magistrates. The development comes as the COVID-19 death toll in Himachal Pradesh rose to 2,185 on Friday with 67 more fatalities, the highest single-day rise so far.

Uttar Pradesh lockdown Extension:

The UP government has extended the lockdown in the state till the 24th of May considering the ongoing pandemic situation in the state. Only essential services will be allowed. All shops, commercial establishments, government and private offices will remain closed. The fresh directives state that a maximum of 25 people will be permitted for weddings and other functions. Earlier it was a maximum of 50 people in enclosed places and 100 in open spaces.

Haryana lockdown Extension:

Amid the covid surge, the Haryana government has decided to extend the lockdown till the 24th of May. Strict measures will be taken in the state to curb the spread of the coronavirus. This is the third time the state government has extended the ongoing COVID restrictions amid the spike in COVID-19 cases across the country, though the state reports a steady decline in cases.

Chhattisgarh lockdown Extension:

The Chhattisgarh government has announced a lockdown extension in the Raipur district in view of the surge in covid cases. The lockdown will be imposed till the 31st of May. Under the new restrictions, all wholesale vegetable and fruit markets will be allowed to function only between 12 am and 6 am. The milk parlours will stay open from 6 am to 8 am. In addition to this, there will be a complete lockdown on Sundays.

Arunachal Pradesh lockdown Extension:

The lockdown in the state capital – Itanagar has been extended by two weeks, ie, till the 31st of May. Shops dealing in essential items like grocery, vegetables, meat, etc will be allowed to trade between 6 am and 12 pm. Certain shops in sectors and colonies of the region will be allowed to open on a rotation basis. Essential services like medicine shops, hospitals and medical establishments are not in the purview of the lockdown. On the other hand, there will be a total restriction on the movement of individuals between 2:30 pm and 5 am.

Jammu & Kashmir lockdown Extension:

The government of Jammu & Kashmir has decided to extend the lockdown till the 25th of May in view of the rising cases in the Union territory. As per guidelines – gathering permissible for marriages is reduced to 25 from 50, while essential and emergency services have been exempted from the restrictions. Police and paramilitary forces have put checkpoints on roads in all districts of the UT to curb the unnecessary movement of people.

Punjab lockdown Extension:

The Punjab government has declared a lockdown extension till the 31st of May. With the continuous surge in test positivity, the state has taken this measure to curb rising numbers. And, this time there will be strict enforcement of rules. There is a need to extend the restrictions due to a high positivity rate of 13.1% recorded between May 9 and May 15 and the case fatality rate reaching 2.4%.

Meghalaya lockdown Extension:

On Tuesday (18/05/2021) the Meghalaya government announced the lockdown extension till the 31st of May in the East Khasi Hills district after reporting 517 new covid cases. The decision was taken in view of the rising number of positive cases and after consultation with the medical experts. The government has banned the movement of individuals during the lockdown. During the total lockdown, movement outside or inside the EKH district will not be allowed except for the unavoidable and emergency services.
