IRCTC to Resume Karnataka’s luxury Train the Golden Chariot from January 2021; here are things you should know

Jewel of South, Karnataka’s Golden Chariot train to be resumed from January 2021. The train was temporarily suspended last year due to lack of enough passengers. IRCTC was handed over the operational, marketing and advertising functions of the train by Karnataka Tourism Department in January 2020.

In January 2020, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) was entrusted with the task of renovating the interiors of the train. Due to the unforeseen delay due to outbreak of COVID-19, the luxury train will resume its operations from January 2021.

According to IRCTC, the tours will commence from Bengaluru and will map out places in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and will be returning to Bengaluru.

What to expect in the upgraded Golden Chariot Train?

The renovation of the train has brought upholstered furniture, refurbished rooms and bathrooms, new linen and cutlery. Every vestibule has a smart TV with Wi-Fi for streaming facility. In addition, safety features like CCTVs and fire precautions have also been upgraded in the train.

What are the tour packages available from January 2021?

•6 nights & 7 days – Bandipur National Park, Chikamangalur, Aihole, Mysuru, Halebid, Pattadakal, Hampi and Goa.
•2 nights & 7 days – Mysuru, Thanjavur, Chettinad, Hampi, Mahabalipuram,Kumarakom and Kochi.
•3 nights & 4 days – Bandipur, Hampi and Mysuru.

How much does the package costs?

As per the reports, tourists can pay for one ticket and avail a 50 percent discount for a companion ticket. They can also get a 35 percent discount on the tariff for the entire tour. They can even take a 2 nights and 3 days package on any of the 6 nights and 7 days tours, for Rs 59,999 plus GST for each individual. They can take rooms on a twin sharing basis for tours from January 2021 to March 2021.

What does package include?

Exclusive AC sleeping chambers with private washrooms, 3 day meals of variety of veg and non- vegetarian cuisine, Hygienic packed drinking water, group sightseeing tours, AC busses with English speaking guides, Complimentary onboard gymnasium, WIFI connection (only in public areas), cultural programs, still camera fees, entry fee at itinerary included sites like monuments & wildlife parks.

What package does not include?

Video camera fees/ professional cam fee at sights in Itinerary including forts & monuments, Alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages, business car facility/ spa, porter fee/ tips, telephone calls, room service, laundry and other personal expenses.

How is IRCTC is safe proofing The Golden Chariot against coronavirus outbreak?

•Regular disinfection of train coaches and passenger luggage during the trip
•Regular thermal screening and medical checks of tour managers, drivers, guides and other personnel deployed by the IRCTC
•Staff members would be equipped with sanitation kits, masks, gloves and sanitizers.
•Proper disclosure of information regarding protocols to be followed when visiting heritage sites and monuments—including guidelines and forms—will be supplied in advance to passengers
•Vehicles used in the tours will have restricted seating capacity to ensure physical distancing among the tourists
